There's a nice 1936 set coming up in a local auction, I might have to bid on it for the 50 Cent coin alone. It would definitely be an upgrade from my aVF:

I went to the Royal Bank the other day and asked for 2 rolls of 50 cent pieces, and got 2 rolls of pennies worth 50 cents each........ VERY shocking, the teller with thick accent didn't believe that these coins even exist... I couldn't even get circulated old rolls. Does anyone in Toronto have any luck asking for 50c rolls? Which banks carry them, because they haven't had a circulating issue since 2002. We may ALL be out of luck. HELP.!

It's true. Out of luck. The only way they would have them is if they took them in a customer's deposit.
I have asked the teller in charge of coins at my bank to keep an eye out for the 50 cent coins that customers may bring in. In the past 2 years I have a grand total of one 50 cent piece from this source. It's a 2000P.

Just kidding, it was a banged up 1983.

I guess I'm going to buy even more of those in the future then! Glad I got the 2002 when I had the chance.

Hi hhbkiddo -

It is part of a 1936 set, 1 Cent through 50 Cent, in the upcoming Noble Numismatics auction in Sydney. I will focus on finishing my half dollar collection before I start worrying about upgrades so feel free to bid! :)

I hope it is ok to include the link to the item here:

I might attend some of the sessions if I'm available, otherwise I will just go view the stuff I'm interested in and put in a bid sheet beforehand.

With the scarcity of half dollars it might be wise to buy rolls from dealers. The mintages are crazy low.

During my last visit to Canada (2007), none of the banks I visited had any halves in stock.

I'm also interested in sources for half dollars in Canada. I was lucky enough to buy one from a guy in a store on the weekend, when one staffer asked another if they take fifty cent pieces. I was only too happy to buy it, even if it was a 2002 double date.

Here is my A/V. I love the halves, just can't afford most of 'em! Sometimes I get lucky. Some great die clashes and varieties with these!
