Help please ladies and gentlemen. I've just moved house and Krause is living somewhere in a tea chest. This hasn't stopped me from buying something, I'm just not sure what it is.
It's 31mm., bears the heads of Melgarejo & Munoz and the date 1865. In fact it's identical to the Bolivian Melgarejo I already have, except this one is copper and mine is silver as are all the varieties I can find on the net. Sorry no pics. The scanner is also still packed. Strangely enough, I found the time to unpack my coins.

There aren't any copper coins listed in the 1865 Melgarejo series for Bolivia, only silver. It's not particularly good silver (.666 fine) but it should still look silvery.

It could be a medal; the Bolivian mint had a habit of making it's dies from a set of punches which they would use on other projects, like medals, and they've simply recycled the Melgarejo-and-Nunoz punch for a commemorative medal of some kind.

How close is it to the coin design? If it's identical or very close, I'd assume it's a fake of some kind, and would have originally had a silver wash.

Thanks Sap. this coin is identical in every way to the Melgarejo, both obv. & rev. It bears no denomination, but neither do the silver coins (I believe)
