I picked up this little Ancient coin a couple of years ago. It was bought as "Lastigi (ancient Spain) copper quadrans, 2nd-1st century BC", Obv: helmeted bust facing right, Rev: LAS (in Latin script) between two lines.
Lastigi---Trying-To-Find-Info Lastigi---Trying-To-Find-Info

The ANS collection of Lastigi coins comes up as the number 1 hit on a Google search for "Lastigi", but it's just a list of coins (no pics - those cost $20 a pop [:0]). I think mine is something like #20-#22, so I'm happy enough with the ID.

Trouble is, I can't find much background info on this place. My trusty Sear catalogues are silent, the Britannica Atlas is no help, Wildwinds comes up empty, Wiki lets me down, and a Google search mainly just turns up a few coin references scattered among thousands of pages of Turkish-language sites. Hey, RenaL, what does "lastigi" mean in Turkish, anyway?

All I want to know is, who/where is/was Lastigi? And when/why did they make coins?

, "lastigi" is not exactly anything in Turkish. But with a hat over the letter g, it means "tyre of/for" or "rubber of/for" Google can not distinguish between, so most of those pages that come in Google lead to pages with info about car tyres.

About the coin, all I can't think of anything. Can it be an abbreviation?

I guess it is somewhere around Sevilla-Spain
This is the babelfish translation of a spanish page I found when searched as "hispania lastigi"

"Uncertain location surely in the province of Seville the Merineros/Aznalcóllar? Hill of the Cheese/Sanlúcar, mint supposedly near Laelia and Olontigi and not far from Onuba, given the similarity of its types. In second half of century II a.C. coins in Ae (I roast, semises, quadrants and sextantes) with head galeada in its obverse and ears or tunas in reverse"

this is the original page titled "Latin Mints"

Thanks, RenaL. That's more than I knew before. Province of Seville is in the south of Spain, comprising a roughly circular patch of land about a 50-100 km radius from the city of the same name.

Looks like they're not too sure exactly where Lastigi was, though.
