I was wondering what people thought of opening OGP in order to display coins.

Specifically, I'm talking about cracking open commems and cutting open plyafilm to put in Dansco albums. Of course I will preserve the OGP, but I'm not sure that's the best way to enjoy my coins.

What are your opinions?

Peace

In my opinion, any opening of OGP unless you are going to slab them, will devalue them MONETARILY.

HOWEVER, why do you collect coins? To resell them later, or to enjoy viewing them at your own leisure......

I am one of the latter, so I display my coins however I feel is best for my viewing, whether OGP or not. For example, I like the OGP packaging on the Carson City Silver Dollars, so I leave them in. But mint sets, I may open and place in other displays.......

I guess what I am saying is, do whatever makes YOU happy, they are YOUR coins....

I agree with morganman, it depend on why you collect if it is for your enjoyment then I say go ahead and open it. if you are planing on selling them down the road leave as is. I have open a few mint set to put into deferent set I am working on. But if I had high value coins like some of the CC morgans then I am not sure if it is smart to open them but still it is a judgement call. I knwo there are some that say yo leave the OGP the way they are. But do what you like remember they are your coins.
