The new proof set case only snaps together. It is not an air tight seal.

Correct.

They are not sealed at all, very easy to open, and most definitely not air tight.

In my opinion, they are less likely to have any environmental damage being in Airtites, therefore they should have better value in the future.

All of my proofs have been moved into Dansco albums, so what do I know? I know that I am not particularly concerned with future value, but with present enjoyment.

That said, do what makes you feel good.

I worry about buying proof sets if they're not bought from the mint. The coins I get might be from other sets due to cherry picking.

I guess I am in the minority here again, I like mine to be in the original mint packaging and I also have from every year including silver proofs and clad proofs from 1940 to 2009 (still need the 1936-1939 to complete it) and they are all in the original packaging and I wouldn't change them for anything. The older ones were in some type of cellophane and they are harsh on the coins but I still will not take them out. I have bought another set of the same date because the packaging was making the coins look bad on the older ones (from the 40's-the 60's) but have never had a problem with the ones that snap together, I guess its all in how you store them and how much humidity they are in

The proof sets were sonicly sealed up to 1999. From 1999 to date they are just snap together.
