Upto 1800, Java was part of the Netherlands East Indies, which was administered by the Dutch East India Company: "Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie" (in Dutch) (1602-1800), an international Dutch trading organisation. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_...ndia_Company Apparently, 1800 was a year of transition, so your coin deserves further research. Java was occupied by the Japanese in WW2, and in 1945 became the independent Republic of Indonesia. That region has a very interesting history, and that history is well-illustrated by its coins. Java was the seat of the capital of the Netherlands East Indies: Batavia. Batavia is now called Jakarta and it is still the capital of Indonesia. Your coin is in Krause as Netherlands East Indies/Java/Batavian Republic 1 stuiver KM#205 (hammered dump coinage) composition: lead-bronze catalog values in Krause: good:20$/very good:30$/fine:50$/very fine:75$ I have no idea if these catalog values reflect the real value, neither if these coins were forged (from a lot of Netherlands east Indies coins forgeries exist) Report this Post to the Staff
