Hello,

I am interested in buying acouple holders for my currency. What would provide the most protection? I've seen "air tight" holders for coins, are there any for notes? I've heard of some chemicals in the plastics, with PVC, or acids, would I have to worry about those? Thanks!

G'day, I also collect banknotes.
the people who make albums for 2x2 holders usually also do pages for banknotes: one, two, or three to a page.
Most of these claim that their pages are manufactured from "archival quality" matereials. "Mylar" is often mentioned in this context.
When I get around to it, I intend to make the acquaintance of one or more of the conservators at local museums and archives, and listen to what they say.

Do you know anything about those? I couldn't find anything about what they were made of... Do you know of anything else like that?

I would be interested in the answer to this also. It would be nice to have for some of my nicer bills; but I'd hate to put into something trying to protect them only to find that I sealed their doom.

Yea, thats the whole reason I am worried about it. I would hate to find the note discolored or damaged after acouple years, while I was trying to protect it. :\

Well I know that there should not be a total lack of air. The paper will break down. Even when notes are sent in to be graded the holders they come back in are not quite air tight.
Unless it is a really nice note It should be fine in one of the pages mentioned. They also make individual plastic slide to put them into. For most notes these two options will work just fine.

Dillon my girlfriend suggested that I buy a photo album and use the sleeves from that. So I went to the store and bought an album with sleeves that the bills would fit into. Because it is a photo album the sleeves are acid and pvc free. The sleeves were three to a page but the rings for the binder were getting in the way so I took them out of the binder. I then took a utility knife and cut the pages so the three sleeves were separate. They seem to work perfect. It was five bucks for 160 sleeves that way. They even have a paper backing that you can write notes about the bills like where you got them, why you kept them, whatever you want.
