I just noticed now that the VDB on this 1909 is doubled. Has anyone seen this before? Grades would be greatly welcome as well.

The pictures I took of the VDB area seem to be a little harder to get posted in a steady image. I have posted the best I could get and will try to take some more. (its hard to get that close up without blur)

thanks
malissa

I'd say the V is definitely doubled, which is quite interesting. I'm going to say XF as far as a grade. It matches my XF 1922-D in appearance quite well.

Hi Nic

thank you for the compliments. The doubling is actually along all three letters its just not the greatest clarity for looking at it. I am going to add more and keep trying.

As for how I get that close? I use a 10x magnification jewelers loop and hold it tight up against my kodak easy share camera. I added a pic of that too, but of course when taking the photos I have to hold the loop and camera in one hand and I steady and take the picture with the other. Takes some practice lol

Malissadawn thanks for the info!
a jeweler's loop, didnt think of that, I was thinking only yesterday of a telesopic 30x magnifier for close ups being advertised. Now I'll go for the jeweler's loop instead.

Thanks again, you have a very steady hand for that closeup

Your 09 VDB looks to be about AU50. What you are seeing is Machine Doubling IMO, not worth anything extra. Post it in the error/variety section as I'm no expert on doubling.

Very nice coin, I'm going to say at least AU-50 though I wouldn't be surprised if it makes AU-53.
