Where do you go to buy paper money. I find that dealers tend to charge outrageous prices. Does anyone have good luck at flea markets and do dealers have junk boxes of paper money. I no longer can go back to the dealer near me because I had some bad words with him when he completely ripped me off in the beginning when I started collecting.

The bay. For my collection purposes, I usually buy huge sets or 200 or so notes, go through them, keep the ones I want, and sell the others.

Almost every note I have is from ebay as well. I too am partial to buying lots, but I tend to keep everything. Partly because I have a hoarder mentality, but mostly because I am too busy.

One of our members, Cownas22, sells notes at very reasonable prices occasionally on the forum. Talk with him. Also APMEX sells wholesale currency lots.

Check with stamp dealers. It's amazing what some people will put in their stamp albums. Most dealers I've checked always seem to have a small box of foreign paper money under the counter somewhere.

Notes can be pricy because coin dealers have recently decided to pay attention to them in the last five years or so. Before that, they were a lot easier to find.

Another place worth checking is antique stores. I recall hearing a story once where an antique dealer was working on a desk he purchased from an estate. He found a secret compartment and inside that he found a small box full of what turned out to be broken banknotes. Not knowing what to do with them (they couldn't be spent) he set them aside. A collector walked in and inquired and wound up walking out with them for a good price.

Elderly people often have notes tucked away as souvenirs of places they went to and will sometimes give them away if they know someone actually collects them.

Hit bingo nights and get the word out...lol..
