I'm fairly new to coins and the grading process and was wondering for some help here. I have a couple of coins that I know don't hold any value to them other then the face value. Was wondering if someone could help grade them with the pics just so I can get somewhat of an idea on how to grade them myself. much appreciated, thanks -Taylor

I have to admit I have never learned how to grade FDR dimes. Do not despair though, we have a few enthusiasts that will likely be able to help you out.

Hi, your dimes are around a very good to fine condition. The best way to grade these dimes are to look at the lines in the torch and the details in the leaves on the plants on the reverse and the details of the hair on the obverse. Any to answer the value question- No- they are only worth face value. Look for dimes that are 1964 and older because those are the dimes that a composed of 90% silver.

I would give you F/VF on the 78 depending how much is left of the torch slats(cant tell from photos)and probably EF(possibly VF) on the 67 if it has some luster hiding somewhere. If you want to get into grading, there is a decent book " ANA Grading Standards" that gives you written definitions of each series and where wear shows up for the grade. I think it is worth the money for coins that are MS60 and below. For coins over MS60, you can read the definition and learn with time, but that is my criticism of the book. It gets much more difficult and subjective when you get over MS65 cause one little mark could turn a MS67 coin into a MS66.
