Hey folks,

I received a few of the new Buffalo nickels in change yesterday on the Jersey Turnpike. Keep your eyes peeled they are certainly out there.

Now if that doesn't promote tourism in NJ nothing will. Jump in your car and head for the NJ Turnpike. Its just like going to your local coin shop but you don't even have to get out of your car! How about, Buffalo nickels are on us, just drive out and pick one up today! Those NJ folks sure are crafty!!!

Does everyone think folks put these aside? I'm always amazed that despite the billions of State Quarters minted over the last 6 years, they make up maybe 25 % of what I receive in change- and certain ones only show up every few months in my change. I see NJ maybe every 3 months...
Of course, I haven't gotten a silver coin in change in about 20 years- literally- but my cofee stand says they get them often...I'm going to use your "flip tip" hint for making numismatic friends, ND

I don't see any way that these will be "rare" but many do....I think most people will put one or two aside and that is all...
Well back to school I go!!

Ah, that is great news. I was wondering when the first reports of bison sitings would come in!

Oh the buffalo's will show up in circulation no doubt, but that is exactly what they will look like ,with the big field on the obverse and the high relief on the reverse, no chance that they will be unscathed once in a change drawer.

We also saw a lot of the Keelboat and Peace nickels in our change very soon after they were released. I guess there had to be something good about this armpit of a state

Here is how they look after being in circulation a bit. Notice the marks on the obverse.

That mark on the cheek was probably there before it even hit circulation - way to high relief. I like the added detail to the bison, though. I think that finding examples of this in MS65 or higher might be a real challenge.
