I found a Nebraska quarter in change the other day, and on the front, the "United States of America" over Washington's head is missing except for the last A of America.

I would assume that somebody just defaced it, or it wore off somehow or something else, but is this possibly some type of mint error?

First off, welcome to the forum stilicho, and great choice on your user name! ( I'm a student of Middle Eastern studies, and have spent many hours in studies of the Byzantine Empire). As for your quarter.....I think we'd all have to see pics. It could be a mint error, but without seeing the coin, it's impossible to tell.

to the forum stilicho. A Grease Filled Die would cause the problem that you have described here. Not much extra value in those.
