What is the significance of the 1996 PL set? I've seen it selling on ebay for around $40 while the Charlton lists it as $30.

In 1996 the finish was changed on the coins to a brilliant relief - parallel finish background. The Pliofilm package continued.Mintage of 120,217 sets. They also contained the near 5ct/nickle.These sets always seem to bring a slight premium due to the type of coins. Some of these sets have a very nice doubled dated Loon dollar in them.

1996 was the 1st year the 2-dollar twoonie was released as well, but uncertain if that demands a premium.

To my knowledge, the twoonie wasn't included in the 1996 PL set.

I find it interesting that the 1996 twoonie wasn't included in the PL set and the 1987 loonie wasn't included in that years PL set. Having said that, what was the rationale for not not including the debut coins in PL sets?
