CCAC issues annual reporthttp://www.numismaticnews.net/Defau...1391Articles
The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee has issued its annual report for the fiscal year 2005.

The CCAC has endorsed 2007 commemoratives that would honor the 50th anniversary of the desegration of Little Rock Central High School and the 100th anniversary of the birth of environmental author Rachel Carson, whose 1962 book Silent Spring was a springboard for the modern environmentalism.

Contrary to previous, erroneous reports from the U.S. Mint, Mitchell Sanders is still serving as chairperson of the CCAC. Sanders was appointed to the position in October 2005. He was recently reappointed to the board for a new four-year term. Sanders' reappointment does not affect his chairmanship.

The CCAC also gave its blessing to 2008 commemoratives that would celebrate the 150th anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt's birth and the 50th anniversary of NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

It also supports 2009 commemoratives marking the 200th anniversaries of Louis Braille's birth and Robert Fulton's steamboat patent.

For 2010, the CCAC recommends honoring the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express and the 50th anniversary of the Echo communications satellite. Additionally, the CCAC supports an American Veterans Disabled for Life commemorative.

As for mintages, the CCAC recommends a limit of 500,000 for all of the proposed silver dollar programs.

Other ideas proposed by the CCAC include a "Great Americans" quarter program that would honor distinguished American historical figures in various fields. This would include multiple quarter designs issued for circulation every year.

Another idea, along the lines of the 2003 National Wildlife Refuge System Centennial medal series, would involve the issuance of new medals showing the autumn foliage of New England, the northern lights of Alaska, the Big Sky Country of the northern West, and the cherry blossoms of Washington D.C.
Such medals would feature advanced design techniques, including colorized medals and holograms.
