I got an upgrade for my 1943-D penny but I am not sure if mine was real or a rezinc. It's not blue but a very nice shine to it not dull.

Can you see the steel band on the edge?

The 1943 cent blanks were punched from zinc plated stock, not plated after the punching like the current copper coated zinc cents are.

If you cannot see the steel band (almost like clad) then you have a reprocessed version.

It is difficult to know for sure, but your upgrade looks to be the better coin.

I would say the upgrade looks original from what I can see in the pictures. You should see no plating on the edge because the sheets were plated before the planchets were punched out so the edge has no plating at all on them
