i have no idea why, but I am addicted to the Prestige/Proof sets. maybe it's the little binder case, maybe it's the classy plastic enclosure that makes it look like a book. I'm not sure why, but I am drawn to these things. whenever I see them, I buy them

anyone else share my addiction?

I've often given them as gifts in the past. For example, when I got married, all my groomsmen got them, along with a small attached plaque stating the occasion. And naturally, when my daughters were born, each got one as a keepsake from me. I've also given them to friends when they visit, if they're from another country.

Do I buy them for me? Only when they're priced reasonably. I don't jump right on the bandwagon the year they come out.

I like them a lot, but try to steer clear of the NCLT (except for the odd variety or mule). If you can buy them "previously enjoyed", as the video store would say, they are a fantastic bargain. I also like the 70's era specimen sets, though I don't own any at the moment.

I bought them in the 80s and had a knack for missing the better years, if I look at the ones I have they are the most common if they are better years I missed buying

I think I'm going to have to join Prestige/Proof Collectors Anonymous

I've got the full run from 1971 to 2009. My late Uncle started my addiction when he gave me a 1967 Specimen Set with $20 gold coin and I've been collecting them ever since.
