Hi,

I found the following in my collection. I can't tell whether the inscriptions are Persian, Arabic or Ottoman. Any ideas?

The bottom one and the middle one are both 20 rial coins from Iran.

The top one is from the Ottoman Empire (Turkey), Constantinople mint, from the late 1700's.

Update on #3: I think it's a zolota, KM# 391, dated AH 1187 regnal year 4, which equates to AD 1776.

Hi Sap,

Thanks much for the information. I'm surprised to see an Ottoman money without the Sultan's signature. Any idea on how much these might be worth?

Oh, and, any idea about the years of the Iranian coins?

#1: My 1700's Krause catalogue is getting old and out-of-date now (2002 edition); it gives a price of $18 in Fine.

#2: It was struck in 1981 as a circulating commemorative to mark the 3rd anniversary of the Revolution. KM# 1247.

#3: It's dated 1359 in the Iranian calendar, equating to AD 1980. KM# 1236.

Both #2 and #3 are listed at $2.50 in VF condition in my 2006 edition Krause.
