This one's tough. I'm not aware of a classic commem with that reverse, it's not the NJ reverse, and I don't think you'd have a modern commem with a reverse that beat up (actually, I wasn't aware that you even had any coin less that 100 years old that had circulated ;) ) If Is Washington crossing the Dealaware, I'm not goung to find it by googling Washington and "Delaware River" all one gets is millions upon millions of links to the Garden State commem 25c. Is it a darkside coin? Cook going ashore in the Sandwich islands? Pitacirn?

I wuz thinking Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn on their raft. It also looks like it's been defaced with graffiti. However, the helmets look Roman. Or maybe Greek. Am I on the right continent? Might it be a commemorative of a long ago battle? I'm thinking this way because I think ancient coins usually had images of emperors and kings on them; I could be really all wet - I own just one old Constantine Roman coin. Or maybe it really is Tom and Huck.

Wellllll, I'll be dipped (npi). Trick photography. Now I have another (really disturbing ) historical problem: I've read extensively on Lewis and Clark's Expedition of Discovery and they seldom wore their uniforms, preferring more rugged field clothing. While I wouldn't have guessed from the coin's images that their headwear was supposed to be plumed Napoleon hats, I suppose the Mint applied journalistic license to so portray them. It probably just wouldn't do to show the troops in rags and buckskins.

C'mon, ND, give us some more like this. Now that we know your mindset, try us again. (Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.)

Holy Toledo ND!
I looked at the revrse of one of those today- I had nevr looked at it closely before. Sorry nickel fans- I will pay more attention in the future. I was googling washington and delaware river, captain cook (found a cook hist society site which listed coins with his image- interestingly it did not list either the vancouver commem nor the HI commem- and had no "contact us" link for me to let them know what tyhey'd left offf...).

Thanks- this was a good one. I can't believe no one got it!
