I've been trying to find information on these but there isn't much to be had - including a real value!

This one is for sale for $225: http://cahillcompany.com/_wsn/page11.html

This one has a start bid of .99 and no bids: http://cgi.ebay.com/1967-ONTARIO-MI...OV_W0QQitemZ180416954282QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_2

And this one didn't sell for 2.99: http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-ONTARIO-MI...VE_W0QQitemZ260483108233QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_2?hash=item3ca600cd89

Anyone have anything on these..?

thanks

The medal is listed in Jeff Fournier's book Ontario Municipal and Commemorative Medals and he states that there are two versions, one is nickel-silver (obviously the one mentioned) and a gold plated version. The NS version is listed as having a mintage of 100000 and a value of $2.00 and the GP has a mintage of 10000 and a value of $3.00.

Thanks, chequer. Is 100,000 high or low for a commemorative? Does the book list a value if both are in the original case? I haven't found any of the gold plated ones online, but in the case I have there is one silver-colored and one a golden hue but it doesn't look like it's been plated the way something like that normally looks.

I was really surprised at the difference in pricing online, considering they all look like the same one (nickel-silver).

Hi xshift. Yes, 100000 is extremely high. 10000 is even very high for a municipal (provincial in this case) medal. It is the case with so many of the tokens and medals produced in 1967 though. Having the original case is always a bonus, but with so many of these out there, I would suspect that there isn't much, if any, demand. This would be confirmed by the two that aren't selling on ebay. The other guy likely just doesn't have a clue and is hoping they are rare. I would honestly suspect that these are plentiful in dealer's 'junk' boxes. It's a shame with many of these municipal medals being of very nice quality, but they are largely over-looked.

The only other thing the book adds is that they were produced by the Wellings Mint.
