Here is one of my favorite pieces I have in my collection.
Look at the toning.
I will be sending this in to PCGS to see if it grades,
what do you guys think, will it grade?

Another nice 8R. The rim bump at 3 o'clock and the appearance of wear on the lower cap rim will keep it out of MS more than likely.

I am concerned about the assayer initials - do I see RS?

There is no 1881 Ga RS listed and that assayer combination was never used at Guadalajara either. SO IS THE are really a letter F as it should be?

Hello swamperbob, its actually an FS its just that those "trails" or "streaks" on the coin make it look like an RS. Do you know why the "trails"/"Streaks" come from?

Twangator The streaks indicate the presence of a chemical or coating like a thin oil that covered part of the coin and precluded air from corroding the surfaces. The darker areas are likey the part that was clean to start with.

The streaks are usually a result of planchet preparation and the chemicals used when the blank is cleaned. However, it is impossible to rule out any of a number of post strike forms of contamination.

Just like oily fingerprints can result in a print appearing years later - the streaks were there long before they started to show. It is a good reason to bathe all coins acetone or any similar non-damaging solvent before putting them away.
