I want to get some coins certified, but I don't want to send them away. Is there any other way to get them certified?

Buy them already certified, or have yours certified.

No other options I know of. Why don't you want to send them in?

Most major coin shows are represented by NGC PCGS and ANACS they all offer same day services for drop off coins. It will cost you a lot more though.

Simplest answer is: It depends!

Economy services are the cheapest ($18 at PCGS), but take the longest (up to 30 days). Their standard service ($30 and 15 days). Or if you really have to have it soon, express service is $50 and a 5-day turnaround. Then you have the registered postage both ways (add another $45 to every order). Both PCGS and NGC require membership to submit and that's another $50 per year.

ANACS doesn't require membership and their prices are less than PCGS/NGC with similar turnaround times. Recommend you visit their websites for prices and terms.

there is no other way to get a coin certified by a reputable TPG other than either go to a show and get them graded or sending them off. They will not come to your house to do it (SGS may). Even if you take them to a show they will still have to be sent back to you and will be out of your possession for awhile so if that is your concern then even that will not help. I don't think they can grade and encapsulate a coin while you wait even at a show because they have to seal the slabs and all that. I may be wrong on that but I don't see how they can grade/encapsulate a coin at a show, the graders can grade them but I don't see how they can place them in the slab there

There is no membership fee for NGC if you belong to the ANA, which is a better option all around!

I'm sure if you had a notable enough coin (1804 silver dollar, 1913 Nickel) they would let you fly to their office and deliever it by hand. But for the adveradge coin the options stated above are the only ones. I was edgey sending coins to TPGS at first as well, so the first coins I ever sent in were just some easily replacable silver eisenhowers and franklins. I would suggest sending in a lower valued coin first if you are suspect, I'm sure the results from PCGS, NGC, and ANACS at least will impress you enough to continue using their services.

The sonic sealer/welder that is used to encapsulate the coin is not that big. Not that much bigger than a shoebox. ACG used to take one to shows all the time and slab coin right there at their table in the show. Problem is they make a loud annoying screech every time the seal one and the people at the show complained enough that the show promoters wouldn't sell them tables anymore unless they promised not to do slabbing on the show floor. I don't know where the big boys do their on sight slabbing because I'm sure the hotel or the convention center wouldn't permit it for the same reason.
