I love this end of collecting more than most. I'm working on a 7070 that's full of highly circulated coins. Most are "borrowed" from family collections...my wife's grandfather's coins, my grandfather's, her aunt's, my uncle's, etc. Then the ones I purchase to add to the album are very well loved also. When it is complete...if that ever happens...it won't be this gleaming gem of an album, but it will have significance to me and my family I'm labeling on the reverse of the page under each coin who they were given from so that anyone viewing the album in the future will know that the Half Dime was from Grandpa Jim and the Morgan dollar was from Aunt Barbara, etc. I think it will be a nice family album one day.

bwbollom, that is an awesome idea.
I think I tend to drift towards the circulation is more because I feel that MS or other types of coins on the high end, while beautiful, are loaded with further restrictions. There's not really a whole lot of tactility involved, and it's almost like a museum specimen for me. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not as hands-on. And that was what drew me in the first place- thinking where all these coins have been. I may not have visited some awesome place, but maybe my coin was there, picked up off the ground by someone else.

jbuck: Thanks! My wife and I are enjoying putting it together...I hope someone down the line enjoys it as much Ferret552: Thanks...glad you like it! I agree with your way of thinking. I'm as big a fan as the next guy of a beautiful MS coin, but my favorites are usually fantastically worn specimens You just can't beat the knowledge that this coin might have been used for all sorts of crazy things back in the day before it ended up in my hands (or the hands of one of my relatives who eventually passed it along to me). I just love 'em! Then of course there's the ancient Roman coins like the one that's my avatar...I just can't get over the fact that I can actually OWN coins like that! Amazing!

I am positive that someone down the line will appreciate this. I know I would. But at the minimum, you have spent some quality time with the missus. Very nice. I won't harass you about the pictures though, since I have yet to photograph my inglorious 7070.

jbuck: Thanks! I hope you're right and someone does enjoy and appreciate it down the line :) I know my wife and I are having fun with it right now. Y'all got me motivated enough to jump on my junky scanner and at least show what I have thus far. The scans aren't the best, but neither are the coins, so I guess it fits We just started at the beginning of November, so there's still a lot of holes, but it's coming along nicely. I'm hoping to ask for specific coins from family members for future gifts (birthdays, Christmases, etc.) so that I can say that "X coin came from family member Y" and so on. Like I said earlier, I'm labeling where each came from on the reverse below the coin so that whoever views or ends up with the album in the future will at least know that they were part of a family collection...if they care. Or at least I'll remember Here's the scans: http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/...0Type%20Set/

Thanks jbuck! It's a really fun set to work on, even in low grade coins like these Just going through some of the family coins, it's been great to be able to add them to the 7070 album. Like the Half Dimes...neither my wife nor I had ever even seen them before, but when we were going through her grandfather's collection, there was a little envelope that had 2 very worn Half Dimes inside! I'm sure he likely found them in circulation many many years ago and held onto them. Would they be worth anything if we tried to sell them? Sure...maybe $5-10 or so. Wow But they're a prized part of the album now! The same with the "commemorative dollar" that doesn't really belong in that place "officially". It was in my grandfather's collection and I'm guessing it's some sort of token. It's from Ft. Bend County, TX...where my grandparents lived and my parents live and where I was born. It fit perfectly, so it's staying even though it's not technically a coin! My album, my rules LOL!

I couldn't agree more! I was actually just looking through some 2x2s because my wife and I were going through her grandfather's pennies last night sorting them into tubes, organizing them by date. I was just going to bust them out and add some of the wheat pennies that I had in 2x2s from my younger days to the tubes, but then I noticed that I had marked a few of them "found with mom" or "from dad" on the back in my 10-year-old self's handwriting I guess those will have to stay as they are even though they're just dirty old g-vg cents.

That's a nice set, bwbollom. Seems like you have a great start on it. You should start a thread in the Classic Coins forum so that great set can get more attention.

soldier4Christ: Thanks! I definitely recommend working on one. Even if you're just doing a highly circulated one like mine, it's a lot of fun :)
wheatguy: Thanks so much! We're really enjoying it. Thanks for the suggestion...I might just have to drop into Classic Coins and post it there now that you mention it :)
