Hi,

Have any of you heard about these coins from Tuvalu?

http://blog.beautifulcoins.com/2009...marks-t.html

Is this a good buy?

Thanks!

Yep. There's threads about three of the coins from the series here, here and here.

If you appreciate the history and like the designs of the coins, go ahead and buy them. If you're hoping for an investment "sleeper", I wouldn't recommend them. Perth Mint coins have a generally poor track record.

Personally, I try to avoid such blatant collector-oriented marketing. Tuvalu is a small Pacific island nation, located nowhere near the events depicted on these coins and with no historic connection to them whatsoever. The coinage of Tuvalu should be (or at least it should pretend to be) relevant to Tuvaluans, not aimed solely at foreigners who know little and care less about where Tuvalu is.

The Perth Mint is a prolific producer of coins
There are only two series I collect.
If you collected everything they did you would need a warehouse.
The coins from Tuvalu are what I call fun coins.

You can get - cars, motorcycles, Barbie, Famous battles, airplanes ...

If you like them they are fun

but realize Tuvalu does have its own currency and very few people collect their currency

Hi Leo, Tuvalu is also known as the sinking Island, in the same difficulties with the rising sea level as Bangladesh and other very near sea level countries

Now that makes sense, because I could not recall a famous battle on Tuvalu soil.

Yes, island of Tuvalu and island of Nauru have the same sea level inundation situation, but for different reasons. Interesting to get a coin from each if your into world coins
