Welcome Oracle, Shep and Brissyboy.

I try to get all the new 20 cents from circulation, but going by your (Brissyboy) post, I might have to have a closer look at them.

I went through our change tin last night and bagged up about $70 worth of 20 cent pieces. Out of the 17 2005 20's 2 were the end of war things, the rest were normal platypusses. Rare? No.

Well, I've decided to keep 3, I have seen sooooooo many lately that I agree they are not rare. The diffrent obverse though is interesting, I'm gnna take a look at that. I also found my first 2006 20c yesterday.

Thanks for the welcome.

Know why you collect!
If you are going to collect circulating decimals for any other reason than interest (mental pleasure) then you will be disappointed more often than not.

Collect them if you don't want to or can't spend money on a collection.

Significant errors, wavy 2 20c and the State Federation sets are the only Australian circulating decimals that currently appreciate.

Brissy mentioned an important point about the 05 Platypus. Uncirculated examples will only exist in hoarded security rolls

The availability of high grade examples is more important than total mintage. The 1981 3.5 Claw is a good example. Common as muck in circulation but expect to pay above $100 for an unc one. .

In the June issue of CAB John Andrew interviews Stuart Devlin. The whole mag is worth buying just for this article. Stuart Devlin mentions the Platypus was undoubtedly his best coin design. He goes on to talk about why he didn't include the kangaroo in the first decimal designs and why SD is not included on all the reverses.
