16.75% tax, which is probably GST and PST, and likely nothing for duty, based on your $2,000 estimate of value. Truthfully, I wouldn't have valued it so high. Sounds to me like you got it all for nothing in the first place.

Warned you about UPS, didn't I?

fixmdude,don't send the coins via UPS,send them via USPS in lots of less than $200.UPS must remit taxes,and charge brokerage fees for every item they bring across the border.The postal system opens packages and levies taxes at their discretion.I receive coins from the US at least once a week,all mailed with the customs sticker stating "numismatic items" and the value.In the last two years only two packages under $200 have been taxed.Of the hundreds of items mailed to me from the US none have ever been lost by the postal system.

Exactly what I was saying. I would never ship anything by UPS.

I've even received coins without any customs sticker whatsoever with no problem or duties/taxes. For your peace of mind, you may want to Register, though.
