Looks more like a game piece to me, I don't like it. John1

I like it better than most of the other suggested designs. Kind of reminds me of the Shield nickels from o so long ago. I just hope its a stable design and not like the ever evolving Washington quarter. -XoG

I'm pretty sure it's because our tax system means that whatever we purchase has an unwieldy number attached to it. Hence small cents.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the cent's value still under .01?

It may look boring in that drawing, I bet it will look much better on metal.

Quote: I hate to say it, but why haven't they just discontinued the cent? It costs more to make one than they are worth, and in today's economy...I just don't understand it I agree, but I would like to see the cent still issued in mint and proof sets. I agree, all four of the 2009 cents look way better in my hands than they did as line art or even as real photographs.

I don't think the coin in hand will improve the looks of this drawing. I'm completely disappointed. Looks like the opened up MSPaint and threw in some clipart. I think my set will end with 2009. =(
EDIT: I really liked LP17 or anything with the eagle.

My first thought, " You got to be kidding !! my 3 yr could have designed a better reverse." Who votes on these designs anyways?

Not my pick, but it's better than the last one. The eagle was vastly superior to all the other designs.

What it really looks like is a Civil War token. It is very similar to patrotic dies #192 thru 194, and 342 and 343. All of those have the same large spade shaped shield with an inscription around the top rim. On 192 - 194 the chief at the top of the shield is just the horizontal lines symbolizing blue, the 342 and 343 have stars there. 191 - 194 have a scroll across the lower part of the shield with the world UNION on it. This is 341 (similar but smaller shield than on 342 or 343) This is 342 The die on the left is 193 Well the image links aren't working. They can be found on ebay auctions 380175703611, 110457043244, and 130294997477

Quote: gawd0wns: It may look boring in that drawing, I bet it will look much better on metal. A simple design translates well to metal (and, high speed 'business strike' coin production!) on a small coin like the Cent. The eagle design, fine though it is, is a copy of the reverse of the 1986 Statue of Liberty Gold $5 commemorative coin: Let us not forget that the 'shield' was on almost all coins that circulated during Lincoln's lifetime (and the Shield nickel shortly thereafter), so it's an appropriate tribute to Mr. Lincoln (and the Civil War era) as well. The eagle reverse was also (historically) placed only on coins of 25¢ and above, and that was the general rule in Lincoln's time. (The Seated Liberty 25¢ to $1 coins of this era have shields on both sides of the coin!) If anything, I'd like to see that 1986 eagle reverse design put on the Quarter!
