Beautiful coin! I think it's a proof. If not it's one of the nicest DMPL Morgans around.
PF65CAM.

Fantastic looking coin, I'd say MS-66 DMPL.

Turn off the flash. Tremendous coin. There's a "dimple" southeast of the mouth which identifies it as a Proof - only one set of Proof dies was used that year and they all have it. As a Proof, you gotta hold a stricter grading standard, and I will estimate it at PR65.

Thanks for all of the comments. Everyone graded it higher. Do you think there is a chance for an upgrade?

Quote: Do you think there is a chance for an upgrade? Hard to say. Proof grading is much more exacting than business-strike grading; the factors which caused PCGS to grade it so low might not be visible in the photographs. They're tough on Proofs. Even though over a thousand 1883 Proofs were struck, many were spent in the Panic of 1893 resulting in a lot of Circulated Proofs on the market. It's more rare than the mintage would suggest, and you can expect PCGS to be stingy with the grade.

Wow you know so much about these coins SuperDave. Do you know how many uncirculated coins are left? What is the most affordable morgan proof?
