got lucky today found this half guinea in a ploughed field. also had 3 hammereds out of it as well. its proving to be a little gold mine.i would be gratefull if anyone could grade it for me and a rough price in british pounds.theres a few light scratches and the milling around the edge is in very good condition.

With the scratches, I'd grade it a British Fine. Should still be worth more than bullion value - guineas and their fractions have to be pretty badly beat up before they're reduced down to melt value only. Nice find!

That's an amazing find of a coin with so much history? How big is the coin itself?

there are, there just way way harder to find. They tend to be found in Civil War battlefields the most I would think. -XoG

we have had our fare share of civil wars over here in the last 1000 years lol.there was a battle in the sorrounding fields were we go in the 1600s.when oliver cromwell came down.we have had a lot of musket balls so something went on.im not sure if muskets were used for hunting though.i know its a bit grim but they could have actually taken someones life.

That must be awesome, to search land that has had coin spending (and loosing) civilizations for 1,000s of yrs. You are a lucky fellow for where you're located. Can I come visit? J/K happy hunting, hope the snow melts quick for ya

I live near Kings Mtn Battleground and even though I dont have a metal detector we have found all types of things in them woods. I guess the strangest thing I have heard of was a bayonet stuck about 15 foot up in a tree. I guess it got stuck in the tree and couldn't be removed easily so they left it and the tree grew and it just got higher and higher. I didn't find it myself but saw it on the news years ago about it, we find allot of musket balls and such there though
