If you've got a 19th century Krause, there's a brief explanation at the bottom of the introduction section. It's related to "which way up" the edge lettering is.

Place the coin on a flat surface, so that the edge lettering is "right way up". If, when you do so, the side of the coin you can see "on top" is the reverse (shield side), then it's "Position A". If it's obverse-up (portrait side), then it's "Position B".

It's a relatively minor variety, and for most dates it doesn't make any difference to the price. For 1873, Position B is scarcer.
