yes I know there is damage there.but under the straight part of the D
there seems to be another D but its much smaller than the other one.
So....whats a D over horizontal D look like?
Is the underlying D smaller than the top D?
Are both D's supposed to be the same size?
Anyone know where a picture might be found of the D over horizontal D version of this dime?

and again....yes I know there is damage there but a 1959 Cadillac with a smashed fender is still a 1959 Cadillac...

This is what I am looking at.

The two Ds would be the same size. If this was a D over Horizontal D, you would never know it because the horizontal D would have been right in the middle of the damage. What you are seeing as a mint mark is just caused by the gouge itself.

Interesting that this post made me look into something I bought in a roll while back. And this is one that caught my eye under the loop of a 1945-D. This compare to the cherrypicker guide looks pretty similar, if majority agree, I may send in for encapsulation.
