I have a round brass token that says "S.O.L." at the top and "NEWS"is at the bottom. The token is 21.2 mm in diameter with a center hole and the rim has denticles circling the token. The reverse has no text, only the denticles.

Any idea where this is from and when it was issued?

Interesting token...seeing a pic might help to place an origin/date.

I think it's more than the news that has us SOL anymore! Anyway here's a picture.

I'm not sure if this applies to this token but there is a SOL Newspaper ( Sol which is Portuguese for sun)

Tokens with this overall appearance and center hole are typically amusement tokens. It is common for the name of the business (or sometimes the number of the amusement device -- pinball is common) to be on the token. Also, newspaper/magazine/tobacco stores (rare now) frequently had pinball machines. Likely all of our minds immediately went to the same interpretation of S.O.L but I would suspect we are looking at the initials of the news store owner.

Thanks for that info. I have a lot of these with just a 4 or 5 digit number on them so now I know what they are!
