I was wondering if anyone here still shoots 35 mm film and if they save the film canisters? I have found that 1/2 dollars store nicely in them. The only problem is I do not know if they contain PVC or other chemical that may be harmful to coins in them for long storage.

Yes, there are three types of cannisters, the all aluminum with "Kodak" embossed on the side and with green aluminum twist cover, the japanese PVC non-transparent black plastic cannister with metal twist cover and just before the 35mm was overtaken by the digital, the "last type" a transparent PE Plastic cannister with clip type plastic cover.

the black plastic, from japan film makers, is the one with PVC, because at that time PVC was the cheapest to blowform and suitable for non-food
