I avoid having more than ten $1s in my wallet because it just gets too fat(tri-fold wallet). I do like having a few small dollars and half dollars in my pocket and the jingling sounds like real money, unlike some crumpled notes in my wallet. Besides, small dollars work much better in vending machines- ever have only one wrinkly dollar and the vending machine refuses to accept it

Although I do support using dollar coins, or even brining back the half eagle, the manufactor of coins is just as harful to the environment as making paper money. The mining process produces tailings, and the refining process produces slag that can be laced with harmful chemicals used to seperate the copper and nickel from the ores. Not to mention the air pollutants produced from the refining process as well.

I have contemplated writing a letter for a long time. I feel very strongly about this issue. I am inspired now to put forth a letter to my elected officials.

There is never any reason to receive more than one in change. You stop making dollar bills they WILL increase to production of twos. So any time you would get more than one in change you would get twos. If you are carrying more than one it is easy to include any "extras" in making your next purchase and you are back down to one or less again
Well said.

If you have three in your pocket and your purchase is giving you two more, then why not use those three instead of a five in the first place?

Send it straight to Obama.

They are having a contest to save the government
funds. I agree, it's time to retire the dollar bill. Who knows you could be famous.
Don't let you senator take credit.

"President Barack Obama put a money-saving proposal from Nancy Fichtner of Loma, Colo., in the national spotlight Monday, giving the federal employee a SAVE Award for a proposal that would cut costs at veterans hospitals."

WpgLwr, I see no reason why the dollar coin makes more sense than the bill. Would you rather have 20 coins or bills in your pocket? That is why the bill just makes sense.

Up here, we have both $1 and $2 coins; we've had the former for 21 years, the latter for about 13. In that time, I haven't noticed any higher percentage in worn-out pockets, nor have I had pairs of pants where the pockets had to be replaced from carrying "all that change" or anything.

Coins last longer than paper money does. You just can't get around that fact.

It's okay...there have been many times after payday I've been surprised to find that I have been walking around with over $10 in coin in my pocket; there have even been times when this amount is $20 or greater, too. Funny enough, it hasn't led to back problems or anything. Go figure.
