Does anybody really think these won't be melted into a 5 gallon pail of water and sold as "nuggets". Sorry to say it...but my bet is that these represent "history lost".

Wow, that's 650 ounces of gold. With gold at it's current price, I doubt they won't be melted. I hope they catch the perpetrators though, with the original bars.

Did Dwight Manley leave the stuff in his garage again?
If any of the newer people are wondering what I am talking about, Dwight Manley bought many of these ingots back when they sold off the SS Central America treasures. Later while he was having remodeling done at his home he put them out in the garage. The workmen came in and out through that garage and one day one of the workmen helped himself to several of them. They were recovered shortly afterward when he tried to sell one to a coin dealer. The dealer knew Manley had bought a bunch of them so he contacted Manley to see if he would be interested in this one. Sure he was interested, he already owned it! That was how Manley learned they were missing.

I did not hear about this. These are incredibly historic ingots and bars from the gold fields of California. Some of them are unique. I hope they are recovered.

It would be tragic for them to be melted, because no doubt they have historic/collector exceeding melt.
