1. Are PL coins like mint set quality coins? Are PL coins something different that proof coins?

2.Are there any monthly magazines/publications dedicated to canadian coins?

Thanks for the link! The reason I asked about PL coins is because I see they carry a premium over buisiness strikes and wondered if PL are proofs or just "prooflike" but not a proof.

PL coins are usually from a set produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. The mint has never called any of the sets they produce Proof Likes, the term was first used in the 1950's by Jim Charlton and it stuck in the collector population. The coins are handled differently from business strikes and in most cases a business strike coin in MS65 will sell for more than a coin in PL65. The mint did not produce actual Proof coins until 1981.
