Anyone familiar with the book
Coin Chemistry: including preservation by Weimar W. White (Hardcover - August 31, 2006)?

How useful is this book for a non chemist?

I don't have the book, but on seeing your post, I went to Amazon, looked it up, and ordered a copy for myself. It'll be here in a month or so.

It is an okay book...not too specific, just general information.

I just received my copy a couple of days ago. I haven't quite finished reading it through thoroughly yet; it's only a small book (90 pages) but it's got good information and it's not so technical that a non-chemist can't follow what it says.

Most of the chemistry under discussion is about toning of silver coins. If you like toned coins and think nothing of paying multiples of the book value for a nicely coloured coin, reading this book will probably be a world-changer for you.

Would there be anything of interest to someone who likes chemistry but doesn't really care about coins? (Trying to include my wife.)

It does tend to go on and on about coins, and the numismatic jargon is perhaps enough to drive an anti-numismatist to distraction - but there's enough chemistry there to keep a scientist happy.

Just don't let her read the book and then try to tell her how beautiful your toned coins are. If she didn't get it before, she really won't get it afterwards.
