I just got a 2009 one tenth ounce gold eagle and a 2009 silver proof set from a large mail coin company. Both items are very nice. I really think that mint sets and proof sets and the silver proof sets are a good thing to buy for the 2009 year. With the change in the cent and the last of the territories, the change of the dollar and the late and low mintage of the eagles, makes this a desirable year of coins to own. Any one else agree?

You might check the United States Mint website for current and even 2008 material. Sometimes you'll get a much better price buying directly from the Mint.
And the 2009 Silver Proof Set.....regular Proof Set....and Uncirculated Mint Set are all still for sale. You can still buy lots of stuff from 2009 !

My point of the post is that I think that the 2009 sets and other coins of that year are a good thing to have because of the changes made for that year. The possibility or probability of lots of other stuff still available at good or bad prices has nothing to do with it.

I understand what you are saying and I think I agree. It is a unique year, at least for collector's appreciation. The 2009 mint and proof sets are huge and have greater variety; while the 2010+ sets will be a lot smaller.

Look at it this way. Almost everyone knows I have no problem busting up a proof set for the sake of my Dansco albums, but I am actually considering not breaking up my 2009 Silver Proof set! Or, at least, acquiring a second set to keep intact as a set.

Which is why I wont break up a certain 2008 set. Of course, that is his set, not mine. Mine will get cracked.

My Grandson Trevor is two years old and I bought him the 2008, 2009 and have an order for an extra 2010 Silver proof set from the mint for him. My plan is to get him one very year so that he will have a complete set when I go.
