Zimbabwe is now in the process of introducing a $100,000 Bearer Cheque emergency banknote. Here's a link; http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/5032826.stm .

I wouldn't be too surprised if the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe kept on issuing higher denominated notes, even as high as Z$1,000,000!

Zimbabwe is a real banana republic thanks to that crackpot Robert Mugabe & his fellow Z.A.N.U.-P.F. subhumans.

It would be very good for collectors,as they would be very glad to snap up these notes for their collections.

Sorry Aiden....already sold...it went out the day after I got it. It had already expired...from memory with a december 2005 expiry date...but from what I can gather this date was extended by 6 months anyway so it may still have been current. It was $100,000 and beyond that I can not remember. The guy that sold it was over 6 foot tall and of negro origin. He told me the government issued them to solve a currency crisis where banknotes were scarce and they are all of low denomination you need large numbers of notes to buy anything. These bearer cheques are apparently not popular as nobody trusts the government to honour them so nobody wants them so they are essentially worthless for ordinary trade. He brought it over to Australia when he recently migrated here and was happy to sell it to me for a few $$$. It sold for $10.00 as both me and the buy had no idea of value and could not find any for sale anywhere.

Bigfella, although the notes have expiry dates, they are still legal tender.Even the ones issued back in 2003 are still legal tender.Anyway,it doesn't change the fact that Robert Mugabe is a nutcase, just like the nutcase sitting on that throne in Rome.

Bigfella, some of the Zimbabwean Bearer Cheques are listed in the Pick catalogue as a regular banknote. It is very interesting area of collecting,as new varieties are being reported, despite the current situation in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean Government says that inflation is around 1,000%.It is more like 100,000%.

Shane,we all know what Mugabe & his fellow nutcases are doing with all the foreign currency that is being found. It is being stolen to fund Mugabe's mass murder campaigns & to line the pockets of Mugabe & his family.I wouldn't be too surprised if there was an underground black market in which the US$ was being utilised as an unofficial currency.I know that was the case when Idi Amin was in power in Uganda & Mobutu
was in power in Zaire.

I went to Zimbabwe a few years back. The exchance rate was rediculous.
Mugabe... extremely racist president since 1980 after the Civil War... formally Rhosdesia (correct me if I am wrong on the spelling). Before Mugabe took over, there dollar was worth $1.25 of ours... so it was stronger.
When I was there in 02, our dollar was worth about 750 of theres on the black market... a lot less at the bank (I was thinking only about 350 at the bank). I guess the latest election, when I was there, a lot of unhappy people because they had proof the election was rigged. A police car got into a wreck that had a lot of phony vote cards. And he has the news station under his foot, so they wouldn't dare report it.

By the way it sounds, it has not gotten any better for them, money-wise.
Whenever we cashed in our money to go curio shopping, we had a paper bag full of like $500,000. Kind of interesting. My dad likes to wheel and deal... at a flea market, he was "arguing" with someone on a price of a carving between $1900 and $2000... finally my dad gave in to the $2000. As we walked away I said dad, you were arguing over less than a quarter "Oh, that's all that was?" I was like common dad, they are already dirt poor, don't beat them down for a quarter.

We went there for a hunt, while we were in the air, the U.S banned all firearms going into Zimbabwe. So we were stuck at the airport for a while until U.S corrected it to military firearms. They were/are afraid of Mugabe getting some crazy ideas.
While we were hunting, one of our guides (white) land/house got seized by the gov't. They said he basically wants all whites out of the country.

It kind of made me nervous first time a camo SUV come rolling by with there military guys with machine guns...

But all in all, it was a good trip, had a great hunt. But they said next time it will not be the same the Mugabe seizing the land of all the white folk. A lot more poachers will be out. Rhinos killed just to saw off there "horn", elephants killed for the ivory. They said it was going to get ugly...

Sorry if theis was a pain to read with going from one thing and back to another... I kept remembering more things to say, so I woiuld go back to add more stuff in. Well that's all for now...
And yes, Aidan nailed it, "Mugabe is a nutcase"

Things are going to get worse for Zimbabwe the longer
that Mugabe remains in power. If the Americans wanted to invade another country. They could do the British Commonwealth a real favour by giving Mugabe what he should have got even for engaging in mass murder against the people of Rhodesia prior to independence - a bullet!

Despite the sanctions,Rhodesia's economy was booming,
thanks to the trade through South Africa.Rhodesia was
the breadbasket of southern Africa.Zimbabwe is now the basketcase of southern Africa. The current President of South Africa has done nothing regarding the desparate situation in Zimbabwe. Some farmers have also been driven off their land in South Africa & Namibia. Some have even been killed, just like some of the Anglo-Rhodesian farmers in Zimbabwe.

On the airplane from Jo-burg to Harare, we sat next to a very nice lady who had there farm burned, seized, all animals and pets shot, they were left with nothing and no where to go.

Our guide said nothing would make him happier than what you suggested, giving Mugabe a bullet. Kind of surprised nobody has done anything like that yet.

It sounds like it is something that should be done.

Here's a couple of links that often have news about the worsening economic situation in Zimbabwe; https://www.zwnews.com & https://www.sokwanele.com .

The new Zimbabwean notes are in a range of denominations from 1c. right through to Z$100,000.If I knew someone who was going over there,I would ask them to get me some.

I was getting a fantastic exchange rate.. I even made a call home and had another 500 bucks mailed to me .and stayed an extra week.. I brought back alot of african carvings and things. it was like getting free money..
