Time to check your change folks. It has recently come to my attention that a NON-MAGNETIC variety of the 2009 cent are popping up in business strike bank rolls. Canadian Coin News found out on January 8th but have not printed an article yet. This is not mine but saw it on ebay. Could be like the 2006 NON-MAGNETIC (who knows). If any of you find some in your change, I'd love to hear! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWAX:ITEdited by laconic 01/18/2010 09:22 am

I don't deal with cash much, but I checked the cents I had and there were three 2009 cents ... all I received from circulation with the RCM logo. One of the three is non-magnetic. Interesting.

Yeah, and someone posted on here before that the 2009 NM cents were very very very common. I think not. maybe. we'll see!

I get a lot of Canadian change here, but obviously not nearly as much as you in Canada--and I had no trouble finding a 2009 non-magnetic.

Are the 2009 non magnetic cents suppossed to be worth anything other then a cent? I have a roll in my box that I have collected and then stopped checking them. I found to many to keep em all. Just curios. I have a roll of each...just in case. :)

Clad hunter, that is a very good idea. It is wise to keep rolls now, especially in circumstances like these, when we dont know for sure how many there is, or what value will be placed on them.

The mintage of the 2009 non magnetic cent seems to be lower than the magnetic variety - somewhere between 1-in-20 and 1-in-40 seem to be non magnetic. They're still quite common.

I have a Canadian 1 cent 2009 coin that is not magnetic, it also does not have either a P or the RCM Logo. I have several of each of the 5 varieties of the 2006 and possibly a 6th variety but it may be a mint error. I really should post another thread and upload the scan of the coin, but I also found 2006 magnetic penny with no P or no RCM logo that appears to have a mint error (die crack) connecting the "C" from Canada to the "6" from 2006.

From roll searching I would say both are out there in equal numbers.

I live in Cape Breton and I am still looking for a 2009 magnetic cent. All the 2009,s seem to be non magnetic in this area.I can never see this one worth anything unless someone comes up with a big variety.

Those CB silvers are challenging now... I remember 10 years ago or so they weren't that hard to find in Halifax, but I can't get them now! Wish I bought them then.
