Amazing hobby  Nicely put and interesting set"Scots" It's always so much more interesting/gratifying acquiring specific examples from a particular region or era. |

Took a shine to the Falkland Islands (such a tiny dependent way out there...) so here's a latest addition which just came in a few days ago (& I finally got around to scanning):   |

Great Falklands note walk2dwater, really like the penguins & the seals on the front Seriously collectible banknotes, as I'm sure you know, anything with Q.E.II is always sought after. Excellent |

While some may equate the commonwealth Queen Elizabeth II described here in Canada (1959) as just another term for empire, many governments (& people) consider it a symbol of solid independent stability with British roots. With 53 nations, it's no wonder that there's a pretty large "fan base" for these popular notes. Nations that abandon their currency also get my attention. Here's an inexpensive 10 Sucre (P124) (which might run 2 Pounds in UNC). (I really like the planchettes or security dots on the reverse side too).   Edited by walk2dwater

Good points you make walk2dwater. I too have that 10 Sucre note, the Spanish Conquistador front centre may well make it to the "despots" topic |

I've added to my musical notes collection with this note from Hungary - 1000 Forint. It features Bela Bartok, considered an important 20th Century composer. I'll admit I am not much of a fan of his music - it's too dissonant for my ears. Bartok wan't only a composer, he was an 'ethnomusicologist', travelling around Hungary and it's neighboring countries recording folk songs from many remote villages, ensuring that they were not lost to subsequent generations. These songs influenced a good number of his own compositions.  The back of the note features the statue 'Suckling Mother' by Ferenc Medgyessy. |

Nice note, Dave. I like the way Hungarian notes stayed very traditional in design until the 1990s. I got this in change in Gibraltar four days ago: I was on a cruise and owing to bad weather in the Bay of Biscay the Captain cancelled a couple of Spanish ports and made an unscheduled stop at The Rock!   |

I think the Ecuadorian banknotes have a similar "traditional" design that "NumisRob" admires in the Hungarian examples. Several countries retain old themes/design elements into the nineties. Quote:
