All I can say is that they must be rare, I've never seen 50 Fr. pieces with these particular dates.

These are indeed the less common dates of that series.
The key however is 1950B togeather with the trial strikes (Essai) of 1950 and 1952.
But I wanted to get some additional opinions about the grades ;)

Great coins! These indeed are top dates, particularly the 1950. I have only rarely caught wind of the availability of one, and always too late to get one for myself. Of course the 1958 is a great one to have as well, with a low mintage of 500k.

As for the 1950B, good ever-lovin' luck finding one of those. With a BV of 3000 euros in Good, er... In Le Franc VIII, they cite six known examples. You're far more likely to find a 1950 Essai than a 1950B.

Now, let me give you my thought on grades:

1950: VF20
1954: VF30-35 -- could make a XF40, tough to tell the luster from the scan
1958: XF45, mayyybe AU50 -- I particularly like the reverse, the privy marks are really strong here, which is unusual for all these 4th Republic series (10, 20, 50FF) where the strikes are so much of the time very weak (mou, comme on dit). If the luster is there on the obverse, I think it could outweigh the slight knocks and scratches that are visible on the neck, cheek, and forehead.

Great coins, I'm envious!

Thanks for the flowers, SeriousCERES!
And thanks for your opinion!
I was lucky to buy a good populated collection of the 20th century at a very decent price.
I will post some other pictures from time to time.
My scanner does a particularly bad job on this type of coins as it conceals almost any trace of luster. The 1954 and 1958 coins have still strong luster, while there remain traces on the 1950 coin.
According to the rules on Franc VIII and after comparing with the pictures at the collection ideale, I graded them like this/
1950: small TTB
1954: good TTB to small SUP
1958: SUP

Hey guys/gals.

I'm new to this and was looking some things up for my father who collects coins. He has a 1950, 50 franc coin, just like the one pictured above (in much nicer condition)

Where does one go to find a value for coins?

Thanks much,

Hi,

your question is not easy to answer becaus it depend on what you call "coin value" - catalogue value or prices on ebay, at trader lists, ... and on the collection your father own. Does he have coins from all over the world or mainly Franch coins?
If you are looking for French coins, you may find a lot of prices here:
http://www.numishop.com/boutique-mo...ce_1795.html

There are also two 1950 50 francs coins for sale. So you have an idea what people may pay for it in France.

If you are looking for catalogues, the KM publications are very complete.
