Clever ways to repurpose an everyday item. 1. Curtain Straightener Make an opening in the bottom hem, slide in a penny or two, and sew the hem back up to keep curtains hanging level and stick-straight. 2. I see noting wrong with doing it to the zinc pennies - they are junk, but I would never desecrate any other US coin, including marking them up like some of these ignoramouses do when they are done searching their half dollars.

I thought that it was larger coins that were used for curtain weights...quarters or other larger coins at least that is what my grandmother used.
So another place to look for silver coins?

My brother, when he was in Sea Cadets used to take wide masking tape, make a line of pennies on it, and sew it into the cuffs of his dress uniform pants to weigh down the pant legs. Apparently, everyone did it.

At least they can be recovered and reused. Better than sticking them in some machine that stretches them out of shape. Steve |

My favorite use in college was to wedge a few cents in the crack of a door in the dorms. The person in the room cannot open the door if done properly. Tough when you're late for class.

I have been on both ends of that prank; on more that one occasion! I fondly remember the sound of hundreds of cents hitting the floor when my neighbour took their door off the hinges. |
