Hi

I just stumbled upon this forum from a Google search trying to find if I could buy a bulk quantity of 1c coins.

I would like to know if there is somewhere in/near Adelaide that I could purchase a large quantity of 1/2c coins, 1c is preferred. I am not after any special coins just the plain old standard ones which have been removed from circulation.

Some may be wondering why I would be wanting to get my hands on some 1c coins and it is no secret so I will share. For my birthday last year my best friend gave me ~$50 in 5c coins and soon it is his birthday and I wish to out do him. Thus the 1/2c coins. ;)

So if anyone can be of assistance and point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Foggy and welcome.
Before you can trade buy or sell you need to hang around for a while and post 50 posting.
I would suggest you try any bank you pass and tell them why you want them are I am sure if they have some they will give them to you.
Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't know that I could ask at a bank for 1/2c coins because they are removed from circulation. I was under the impression that once a bank receives any coin/note which is removed from circulation, they are not allowed to give it to the public?

Hi rggoodie

That is a good observation, I am currently in Germany. I'm there on a student exchange which ends next week. I live about an hour from Adelaide.

I am not sure where you would get them in Adelaide, but $50 face value of 1c coins will cost you more than $50.

As to weather you can get coins like this from the banks, smaller branches need $25 of copper to send them to the RAM. It is suggested in other forums that it is up to the staff and manager of each branch as to wether or not they will give them . Some banks will and some banks wont. If one branch of a bank says no go to another branch of the same bank and it could be a yes. I have.
