I just got a beautiful 1956 East Africa 50 Cents coin. I bought it assuming it was an H (Heaton), but I'm wondering if I've got the KHN. I have some other East Africa 50 cent coins with both the H and the KN mintmarks so I can compare the locations. My current coin has no evidence of the K, a pretty clear H, and a slightly less clear N. Guess this makes it an HN coin! According to Krause, master dies were produced with both the H and the KN mintmarks and the mint was supposed to obliterate whichever mark was not appropriate, but this was not done meticulously, thus creating the possibility of a KHN. Anyone ever hear of this?

Jays-Dad- Would it be possible for you to post some pics of your coin. I would be very curious to see since I have not been able to locate a mint mark on my coins from East Africa.

I've always wanted a reference site which showed the locations of the mintmarks on coins. I really don't like searching and searching a coin, then assuming I must have the no mint mark variety just because I never found one. Is there such a site?

BTW, the mintmark on the 50c from East Africa is above the 50, embedded in the ground the lion is walking on. Sneaky spot.

Jays-Dad- ah thanks for the info! I must admit the design of the Cent and Shilling coins are so under-appreciated. The lion with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background just looks amazing.
