A die crack would leave metal above the coin, a scratch would be below the coin, a lamination could also be below the coins surface.....Lets see what the masters say.....

A die crack would be raised, i.e. have relief. That mark is either a scratch or struck through something. It almost looks too deep to be a scratch because that would probably be deep enough to expose the zinc. It could potentially be struck through wire or scrap but I cannot quite tell from your photos.

Definitely not a lamination - we should consider it is a struck through if it really came out of a uncirculated roll.

i might see jagged edges along the line in question - which would indicate a scratch. If it was struck through wire (the only thing I can think of that it could have been struck thru), the edges of the line would be even. to answer your question, you can search 'struck through wire' and 'cent' in google and see what people are paying.

The second picture makes it look raised = die crack. But the rest all look incuse, so that makes me say struck through also.

just for struck though info, for my learning that is...whould the edges be rounded on a struck through or sharp and clean or rounded? or would it depend on what was struck though? meaning would metal or what ever?
thanks its a good thread.....
