Just thought I would ask this as I'm into them and I cant find anything on the forum through searching.

For those who dont know Barbarous copies or radiates are contemporary copies of Roman coins made mainly in Gaul and Britannia in the 3rd and 4th century AD.

Its still not 100% clear what they used for - some think they were the local population simply minting their own money while others think they were officially produced to prevent currency shortage. Its prob the case that both went on.

Anyways - they are an interesting subject and some of them are hilarious as its clear the people who made them either didn't care about the accuracy or had no idea what the original coins looked like.

Here are some of mine - all are meant to be Tetricus coins.

Odd typeface on reverse:

Tiny and a confused reverse:
Does-Anyone-Else-Collect-Barbarous-Copies?

Confused text on legend:
Does-Anyone-Else-Collect-Barbarous-Copies?

Both L and are pictures off style:
Does-Anyone-Else-Collect-Barbarous-Copies?

Only 9mm across and interesting beard:
Does-Anyone-Else-Collect-Barbarous-Copies?

I doubt even Mrs Tetricus would recognise him from this bust:

Backwards text on legend and very odd picture on reverse:

I don't have any that I can say for certain are barbs, like yours. I have a few that might be, but are too badly corroded to tell one way or the other.

These are very nice. I have several Barbs that have turned up in uncleaned lots that I have bought, but none as nice as these.
