Just looking for a little info on token:

Possibly aluminum
octagonal

One side: imprint of a castle?
'Sparmarke' and '1917'

Other side: '10' and 'Stadtsparkasse' and 'Frankenstein Schl'.

Inscriptions on both sides encircled with dots.

Identified - moved to Tokens forum - Sap

'Sparmarke' means savings stamp in German, 'stadt' means town, area or city and 'sparkasse' means savings bank. It must be some sort of savings scheme/token or perhaps something to do with the government raising funds for the 1st world war effort?

Sounds interesting - do you have any pictures?

It might be German Notgeld from the town of Frankenstein. Unfortunately I don't know enough to help much. I'm sure one of the Notgeld (if that's what it is) collectors will be along shortly and help.

And, yes, if you can post a picture that might help

Your right schmidty - it must be either from the Frankenstein in Saxony or Rhineland.

They were used to combat hyperinflation and currency shortage in Germany and Austria, in some cases the value of the metal in the coin was worth more than the denomination which lead to hoarding and the government to issue notes and stamps instead. The hoarding also meant the metals could not be used in the war effort!

Very interesting - as you say hopefully an expert can add to this and give an idea of its worth.

It's from the Frankenstein in Silesia, now part of Poland and known as Zabkowice. And yes, it is believed to be the locale of the Frankenstein monster story. This is a "municipal metal" notgeld token; the Coffing checklist rates such tokens as "common" though having such a "famous name" on it might score a higher price outside of Germany than other equally common notgeld tokens.

Damn, you guys are good.

That is the token pictured. I bought it from a (semi) homeless man in exchange for lunch plus $5. He was in construction and due to the economic woes he's sleeping at the airport or L train to save money for food. He found the token one day while ripping out the guts of an old house. I told him I'd research it, and if it was worth buku bucks, I'd track him down and give him the token back. Unfortunately, I can't find him.

Thanks for the help.
