1972D peg legs.

I got this off the bay on Wednesday, and it arrived today! Lightning speed! This is the first upgrade to my PCGS registry set. This '78 MS65 replaces the MS64. What I really like about this one is its deeply GOLD toning. It almost looks like it was minted in gold. No kidding. Here are the pics:



The reverse has an even richer gold appearance than the obverse:







Collecting Ikes is way too much fun for me. I love this series!

Domain- that is really intriguing. It's a RAILROAD, I presume? I received another upgrade in the mail today, thanks to CCF member cc99999. 1972-D MS65 replaces a 64. I made an error in my previous post. The '78 MS65 upgrade replaced a MS63. Now that I think about it, I can't imagine why I bought the 63. I guess I was in a hurry to complete the set at the time. LOL.



I noticed the subtle differences in the PCGS labels of these two coins. I think the 72-D is the first one I have with this newer shade of blue, which fades to white at the bottom.



Ahhhhh..... what to upgrade next.

I am very intrigued about TPG (slabbed) collecting.
I have paid up for 1-2 un graded ike error coins.
It would be a warp to light speed for me to start slabbing.

In fact, I may have some BU ikes that possibly will make the stronger MS grades.

Right now, just gathering BU tubes of dates, types, mints, mixed errors, (toned) then just dumping the greasers, to buy more ikes.

I am a small investment level. Maybe some day I will see fit to make my first attempt at slabbing.

I equally like raw and slabbed coins. I have a PCGS set and a Dansco album set. I'm working on my second Dansco set right now. For the PCGS set, I started out by assembling a "major variety" set, which is comprised of 34 coins. I then decided to attempt the "complete variety" set, which is comprised of 42 coins. This extended set includes all the DDO ("FS" designated) coins, the Friendly Eagle, Peg Leg, and the 1971-S/S FS-501 RPM. Here is what my MAJOR variety set looks like in the flesh:



I would highly recommend collecting a graded set of Ikes. It is a really fun endeavor. Here is my COMPLETE variety checklist. Only 4 more to go, but it will take a lot of patience and money for the 1971-S FS-103 and FS-801. I'll be lucky just to find an FS-801 for sale.
