Well. . . . watcha think, Cascade?  I hate that the holder is somewhat littered with scratches.  All the "scratches" you see on the reverse are on the holder, except for the little hit above the "O" in ONE.    Based on the seller's photos I thought it may be over graded, but this thing is every bit a 66. I think it could even get a green bean. It presents with that satiny brilliant luster that I love so much. Like this (direct light):   Edited by Darth Morgan

Nice darth. Did I inspire you? I was thinking mine might have been overgraded. Debating whether to even send it in to cac with my next sub but mine looks a bit better than that one and if you think that one is a solid 66 maybe I should. You know ike grading better than me. I'll get pics up of that future shotgun target one that came back with the 66 soon |

HOW did that NGC 1976 T-I(the one ending in OO4) get an MS66, with the gouge above jawline is...is...well, sooooo NGC...THIS is why someone needs to start a NEW TPG, that reverts back to giving a coin 2 grades..ONE for EACH side..IMHO, the worst thing that ever happened to coins is the 70 system, and morphing the grades into 1. PCGS probably would have done a MS64. Sorry to be negative, but, a gash in a hot spot is hard to deny. Just sayin.... Edited by ilikeikes

My guess is super clean fields. And the bust too aside the gouge and a few chicken scratches on the jaw. I get the feeling that with ikes it's the opposite of morgans as in the fields lead the grade rather than the bust

The slash above Ike's jaw seems to be the only distracting mark. The fields are exceptionally clean. You have the coin in hand. Is this your assessment as well? Based on your photos I think the grade is correct. I also agree with you that Ikes are treated a little differently than Morgans. The fields do seem to "lead the grade," as you say. Perhaps it is also because of the inherent planchet chatter that didn't disappear after striking due to its harder Cu-Ni composition, and maybe this is taken into consideration.  ApexCollecting-com, I assume that is the REV of the 1972 OBV you posted earlier. Both are not only beautiful coins but excellent photos as well. |
