This has been so much fun getting back into the coin collection, Going through the boxes of coins is bringing back so many found memories and going through the coins I had purchased but did not quite get to closely looking over is amazing, looked up from the magnifying glass yesterday and it was getting dark, Started at 8 am. the day just flew by...

And it is wonderful being back among friends here on Coin Community, Bar None The Greatest Coin Forum I Have Had The Pleasure Of Being A Member Of.The free flow of factual information and the way people go way out of their way to help those new to the hobby and make them feel welcome is a rare thing in these times. This place feels like home..Okay Mushy Stuff Over...LOL

While running through an album found this lone Ike completely out of place among some Quarters Nickels and Cent coins in 2x2 holders...LOL

Darth Morgan: And All Numismatist's
After putting more thought to the subject of the 1971 D Struck on a proof planchet from the San Francisco Mint. It occured to me that this is another rare variety of Ike that little is known about, going to try to remedy that.I also have at least one example if memory serves me of a 1972 D Struck on a proof planchet that I have yet to photograph Personally I believe the Eisenhower series has some of the rarest varieties by number and type in all of Numismatics.
This Book in the below pictures and the excerpt from it it is a wealth of knowledge in one place for the Eisenhower dollar Series

Here ya go. Thanks for sharing that resource, Stewart. I've got a copy of that book too- a special edition promotional copy! These enigmas are extraordinary!

This is a screen shot of the ad on ebay. I knew it looked different even from these seller photos. It just had an unusual glossy appearance. I had a hunch that it may be one of the 71-D proof planchet Ikes. I decided to take a chance. Glad I did!

Darth,

Beautiful Specimen
and the price was fantastic. Congratulations Buddy.

Your welcome for the share, You inspired it.

These Proof planchets have really gotten my attention lately,I just happen to run across a thread that evolved into a discussion about proof planchets and Rob happen to mention that there was an entire write up in the book in chapter 21 (It was right under our noses )

the more I looked the more I found still doing lots of research on them, too much fun.

Chuckster: By the way, found my 71 D FEV DDO-001 DDR-001 finally, You are not even going to believe what kind of planchet it is minted onto....

I have looked at it 10 times since I found it an hour ago buried away in a safe and still cant believe it.. All I could do is start laughing at the fact that I completely overlooked the planchet blinded by the FEV and DDO DDR.

When I get some time I will get it photographed.

Found a Link to a discussion where someone found another one.

Looking forward to that, Stewart. I share your passion for the proof planchet Ikes from Denver. This series has so many interesting varieties and nuances for all collector levels to enjoy. Perhaps jbuck will eventually step into the deep end of the DDO Ikes at some point.

On second thought, don't ever do it, jbuck. Those DDO varieties will just make you angry.

Let me finish my graded set first and then we can talk about errors and minor varieties.

OK, guys. I just bought ANOTHER 1971-D proof planchet Ike- only this time it's a FEV to boot! The odd thing is that there is no mention of it being a proof planchet in the auction listing, but it is written on the 2x2. You can most certainly tell that it has that glossy proof appearance. Stewart- I think this guy is a member on the Ike Group forum.

Congrats to all on the finds!

Stu: "AMAZING"!

THE 71D DDO-01/DDR-01, FEV on a proof like planchet.

That possibly a first?

You going to post it over on the Ike Group site and see what ANDY thinks?

Darth Morgan: He is a Ike group member and I've also purchased some of his IKE coins in the past from ebay.

This CoinWeek Article has a couple from my collection that I was asked to provide photos of.

While looking for an ANACS ANA example, I deliberately choose to use an Ike!

Happy 50K JBuck!
